The new TriStar MPPT 600V Controller With DC Transfer Switch will be on display. This product and its application to retrofit existing grid-tied systems with battery backup is an ees AWARD 2015 finalist. Stop by the Morningstar booth for more information about existing products and what’s on the horizon for the future.
Morningstar’s grid-tied battery backup application of the Tristar MPPT 600V Controller with DC Transfer Switch was selected as a finalist for the ees AWARD 2015. The TriStar MPPT 600V Controller with DC Transfer Switch, along with batteries and other components, can be applied to existing grid-tied solar systems to allow persons to switch on critical backup power in the event of a utility power outage. The vast majority of owners of solar systems have discovered to their dismay, that their existing systems will not work during a grid outage because the system’s AC inverter will cease to operate, and power from the solar array is left stranded. Until now, if people wanted backup power, they had to consider purchasing and installing a fuel generator or installing an AC coupled solution, or some other solution that resulted in environmental concerns, excessive costs, or installation complexities. The Morningstar solution represents a clean, quiet, affordable, and scalable solution to this problem. The TriStar MPPT 600V Controller with DC Transfer Switch will be available in Q2-2015. The electrical energy storage (ees) AWARD is powered by Intersolar to honor outstanding products and solutions in the fields of materials, production, systems technology, applications, second-use concepts and recycling. The winners of the electrical energy storage AWARD are set to be announced at an official ceremony at Intersolar Europe in Munich on June 10, 2015.
April 1, 2015 marks Morningstar’s 22nd year in business serving the world with high quality solar charge controllers and inverters. The company has grown steadily and has maintained the same ownership, the same strategy, and many of the same distribution partners since the very beginning. While the solar industry has seen many companies come and go in the last couple of decades, Morningstar has been a model of consistency and reliability, and we plan to maintain these standards for many years to come.
Morningstar will be exhibiting at the NABCEP Conference in Albany, NY on March 30, 2015 through April 1, 2015. Make sure to attend the Morningstar TriStar MPPT Charge Controller Design for Off-Grid and Grid Tie Retrofit training to receive your NABCEP continuing education credit hours. The content presented in this conference is geared toward seasoned PV industry professionals who have several years of installation and/or technical sales experience.
On March 3, 2015 a patent was issued for an invention by Carlos Cuadros of Morningstar Corporation. The invention is a modulation control scheme for a dual active bridge (DAB) DC to DC converter in a charge controller for photovoltaic systems composed of a photovoltaic (PV) array and a battery bank, wherein the charge controller controls charging of the battery bank with DC electricity produced by the (PV) array. In one preferred application of the invention, the modulation control scheme is employed in a dual active bridge (DAB) bidirectional DC to DC converter in a high voltage (HV) bidirectional maximum power point tracking (MPPT) charge controller for photovoltaic systems composed of a high voltage PV array, a battery bank and a high voltage DC load.
This January, Morningstar distributors completed an Annual Partner Questionnaire to better evaluate 2014 performance. The responses Morningstar received indicated a very positive relationship between Morningstar and our distribution channel. The average satisfaction score from the responses of over 75 partners surveyed graded Morningstar’s overall performance as significantly better than that of other suppliers. Attributing to the strong overall satisfaction were high grades associated with: Product quality and reliability On-time delivery Support from account managers Support from order processing representatives Technical support Several respondents inquired about new inverter-charger and MPPT controller products that are already well in-process and will be rolled out later in 2015. For over 20 years, Morningstar has maintained a consistent corporate strategy, distribution partnership, and loyal team of employees. While significant changes over the years have impacted many in the solar industry, Morningstar has enjoyed steady growth and is poised to provide the world’s leading solar controllers and inverters well into the future.
Morningstar will exhibit at the AEE Solar Dealer Training taking place on February 17-19 at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa. In addition to displaying its portfolio of solar charge controllers and inverters, Morningstar will conduct a presentation about its cost effective solution to retrofit existing grid-tie solutions with battery backup power in the event of an outage. The TriStar MPPT 600V charge controller will be featured during this presentation.
Morningstar wishes all of its distributors, dealers, employees, and other stakeholders a happy holiday season and a healthy, happy and successful 2015. The Morningstar Team will be finalizing its partner award nominations and selections, and delivering recognition and awards to those distributors, dealers, and partners whose accomplishments far exceeded expectations in 2014. The company will hold its holiday party for employees on 12/17/2014 in Jessup, Maryland USA. The event will allow for celebration, recognition of achievement, and announcements about company plans for an exciting 2015, including new product developments and marketing initiatives.
Non-profit GridAlternatives chose Morningstar Sunsaver MPPT charge controllers and SureSine inverters for an off-grid solar energy project to supply power to community buildings, heath clinics and schools in Nicaragua. Installation is expected to be completed in early 2015.
