Solar charge controllers use one of two technologies:
Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) or Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)

PWM controllers are simpler and more cost effective, ideal for use in systems where extracting every last watt of electricity possible from a PV array is not a concern
